Nigeria wants to establish a collaborative partnership with local LA Organizations to address the health needs of the people of Nigeria
Monday, May 9th 2005
Earth Rights Institute hopes to establish a strong collaboration between Martin Luther King Jr./Charles Drew Medical Center, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and the World-Wide Congress for Racial Equality in Los Angeles with the Bayelsa State government in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
His Excellency, Executive Governor for Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, Ph.D and his government are wanting to address the acute health care needs of their state, particularly in the state capital of Yenagoa, which is under development as a state capital.
Presently, due to the pressing needs of other social services competing with immediate funding within the state budget allocations, adequate and effective financial support to other social and infrastructure services have critically been affected, particularly that of maternal and child health care in the state.
As a result, the state government presently seeks outside technical supports, funding and partnerships to address these critical needs to continue to meet the state's future health care development and hospital maintenance challenges to speed up the state capital development.
Therefore, the purpose of the meeting with His Excellency, Executive Governor for Bayelsa State and the other Bayelsa State officials is to initiate such a partnership with the above mentioned organizations to help with their efforts to develop a sound health care and medical curriculum, medical/technological training and other such programs that address the welfare of their communities in the Niger Delta region.
