GLOBAL 2005

ECO EXPO & GREEN FORUM

1. BACKGROUND

In the context of worldwide ecological catastrophes and environmental crises, the SARS & AIDS epidemics, and China's entry into the WTO, the demand for green oriented products, technologies, equipment and services is witnessing rapid growth. Covering every sphere of the economy - from agriculture, food, energy, building materials and household appliances to environmentally clean production and environmental administration - a panoply of Green Industries have become the new focus for business investment.

China is a developing country that has been growing prodigiously over the past 20 years. During this time, the Chinese government has steadily accelerated its drive to promote the development of Green Industries and to raise the awareness of environmental protection issues. Laws and regulations governing and encouraging the development of Green Industries in China have been promulgated. The commitment to sustainable development is increasing.

Along with the popularization of green consumption, private investors are showing increasing interest in green oriented industries and in the realm of environmental protection. China's successful bid for the 2008 Olympics has generated fresh incentives for consumption and investment in this area, and has provided a more open opportunity for innovators and manufacturers of green products, technologies, equipment and services.

As a high-level official event, the ECO EXPO & GREEN FORUM will review potential changes to, and development of, industrial and environmental policy; exchange best practices with regard to supportive policies and technical orientation; and examine both the challenges and opportunities in the development of Green Industries and sustainable development.

It is highly anticipated that the ECO EXPO & GREEN FORUM will play a constructive role in the future development of China. With China's entry into the WTO, the conference will provide useful information and suggestions to Chinese governmental authorities and business circles and serve as a bridge between enterprises and institutes overseas and their Chinese counterparts, as well as governmental departments at all levels, in a bid to establish extensive links with, and cooperation between, them.
